Slack Adjusters & Pushrod Stroke

Which defect at the connection between the pushrod and the slack adjuster is unsafe?

  • A.A missing, worn, or damaged clevis pin or retaining clip that could let the connection come apart
  • B.A clevis pin that is secure with its retainer in place
  • C.A connection that is clean and properly aligned
  • D.A pushrod that is straight and undamaged
Correct answer

A. A missing, worn, or damaged clevis pin or retaining clip that could let the connection come apart

Why

If the clevis connection separates, air pressure in the chamber can no longer turn the camshaft and that brake will not apply. Small retaining hardware carries the whole braking load path, so it is inspected as carefully as the chamber itself.
