About PassCDLFirst

PassCDLFirst is a free study site for people preparing for the U.S. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) knowledge tests. It offers full-length practice questions for General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles — every question with a written explanation tied to the official manual topic it teaches.

Why we built it

Most CDL practice sites lock their question banks behind accounts and paywalls, or bury a handful of free questions under ads. We took the opposite approach: the whole bank is free, unlimited, and usable on a phone with no sign-up, because the people studying for a CDL are usually studying between shifts.

How the questions are made

Every question is original practice material, written from the public study topics in the FMCSA model CDL manual and state CDL handbooks, then reviewed for accuracy. They are teaching questions, not copies of real exam items — see the disclaimer.

What this site is not

PassCDLFirst is an independent, unofficial project. It is not affiliated with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), any state DMV or DPS, or any trucking school or employer. Passing our practice tests does not guarantee passing the official exam — always study your state’s current official CDL manual.
