Slack Adjusters & Pushrod Stroke

Which condition can make a stroke reading misleading if it is not corrected first?

  • A.Having the wheels chocked during the measurement
  • B.Marking the pushrod with chalk
  • C.Low system air pressure during the test, a bent pushrod, or the parking (spring) brakes not being fully released
  • D.Reading the measurement at the chamber face
Correct answer

C. Low system air pressure during the test, a bent pushrod, or the parking (spring) brakes not being fully released

Why

Stroke must be measured under the intended conditions, with normal pressure and the spring brakes released so the service chamber does the work. Bent parts or low pressure change the movement and can hide or imitate an adjustment fault.
