Why do you check that brake linings are not wearing unevenly from one end of the shoe to the other?
- A.Uneven wear is the normal way new linings break in
- B.Uneven wear can point to worn cam, roller, anchor, or drum problems and reduced contact with the drum
- C.Only the color of the lining matters
- D.Uneven wear proves the brake is adjusted too loosely in every case
Correct answer
B. Uneven wear can point to worn cam, roller, anchor, or drum problems and reduced contact with the drum
Why
A shoe should contact the drum over its intended surface so braking force and heat are spread out. Tapered or patchy wear is a clue that hardware is worn or the drum is out of round, and stopping power suffers.
