When should the landing gear be raised during coupling?
- A.Before backing under the trailer
- B.After coupling is secure and checked, raise it fully and stow the crank handle securely
- C.Halfway, to leave a safety margin
- D.Only after the first highway mile
Correct answer
B. After coupling is secure and checked, raise it fully and stow the crank handle securely
Why
Raising the gear before the lock is proven could drop the trailer if the coupling fails. Once secure, it must go all the way up so it cannot strike the ground, tracks, or a dock approach.
